Wind farm is coming
Submitted on Wed, 07/04/2007 - 15:14. rehoboth beach | generalThe shallow water just miles from the Rehoboth Beach shoreline could be the site of the country's first offshore wind farm -- but it will not be the only one, as similar projects are racing forward in Massachusetts and New York, experts say.
With more Americans focused on green energy and concerned about dependence on foreign oil, it's just a matter of time before hundreds of turbines harnessing the wind could line the shore from Massachusetts to North Carolina.

Bicycle safety FIRST!
Submitted on Mon, 07/02/2007 - 15:15. rehoboth beach | transportationFor hundreds of international student workers who come to the Cape Region for summer jobs, bicycling is not recreational; it’s serious business. It’s their only way to get to and from work or go shopping for life’s necessities.
Each summer, as increased traffic creates greater hazards on the roads, the International Student Outreach Program of the Lewes-Rehoboth Association of Churches helps coordinate the efforts of many church volunteers, businesses, organizations and agencies to help promote cycling safety.
More visitors this summer
Submitted on Thu, 06/28/2007 - 08:43. rehoboth beach | dewey beach | lewesBetween 6-7 million visitors come to the greater Rehoboth area each summer and that means a lot of cash for area businesses. But this year more people are driving down and staying longer.
Hotel occupancy is up 10-20 percent so far over last year and park and ride services are also up 10 percent.
The reason for the boom rests with the big three- and sometimes unpredictable- elements: sun, gas and a lack of road construction.
Home sales have dipped to the slowest pace
Submitted on Wed, 06/27/2007 - 02:34. rehoboth beach | dewey beach | housing | lewesA new report is showing that home sales have dipped to the slowest pace in four years.
According to the National Association of Realtors, this is the 10th month in a row where there has been a drop in people buying homes. This has resulted in the highest surplus of existing homes in 16 years.
The statistics do not necessarily hold true for the whole country though. Sussex County is actually seeing a boom. What is the attraction? Taxes, or the lack thereof.
Bus Trips to NYC and DC
Submitted on Mon, 06/25/2007 - 02:53. rehoboth beach | announcement | travelWe have again planned bus trips this summer, and this year we have an expanded schedule. We have two trips scheduled to Washington, DC. Both of these trips are $20. We board the busses at 7:00 AM and leave the K-Mart parking lot at 7:30 AM. We go to the mall in Washington and leave there at 5:30 PM. The Washington trips are both on Saturdays. The first one is on July 21st, and the second one is on September 22nd. You may purchase tickets at the church (9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday, although on Fridays the office may close a little early). You may also purchase them at the coffeehouse on Thursday nights from 11:00 PM to 1:00 AM at the Avenue Inn breakfast area (33 Wilmington Avenue in Rehoboth Beach).
Finally you got here! But what next?
Submitted on Fri, 06/22/2007 - 02:29. rehoboth beachCongratulations on squeezing through several hours of traffic so bad it's the rough equivalent of a red blood cell trying to squeeze through John Goodman's buffalo wing sauce-clogged arteries.
So now that you're here, what the heck are you going to do?
Well, after a quick margarita to extinguish the pounding echo of your kids "Are we there yet?" cries from the past 5 hours, you're going to sit down and read this here Beachcomber so you'll know exactly what to get into.
Summer Bike Fair
Submitted on Tue, 06/19/2007 - 03:34. rehoboth beach | announcement | transportationSeveral Sussex County agencies teamed up to keep bicyclists safe on the roads.
It's all a part of the Bike Safety Fair in Rehoboth Beach. People of all ages came to the tents and came out with free helmets and lights for their bicycles. Everyone who attended also received a quick refresher-course on basic bike safety tips. Children were told to stay on the right side of the roads and also schooled on proper hand signs when cycling.
Summer cops on the beach
Submitted on Thu, 06/14/2007 - 04:34. rehoboth beach | dewey beachOCEAN CITY, Md. — In some ways, Rob Jacaruso is no different from a summer intern, except that he wears a badge and carries a .38-caliber revolver.
With one semester to go at Virginia Military Institute, Jacaruso is happy to have a position in his chosen field, and the $12.93 per hour he's earning helps pay the bills.
Jacaruso, who received three weeks training for the job, is one of 110 seasonal police officers hired each year in this beach town (pop. 7,049) to help the full-time force of 107 keep the peace as the summer season swells the population to more than 250,000.
