Several Sussex County agencies teamed up to keep bicyclists safe on the roads.
It's all a part of the Bike Safety Fair in Rehoboth Beach. People of all ages came to the tents and came out with free helmets and lights for their bicycles. Everyone who attended also received a quick refresher-course on basic bike safety tips. Children were told to stay on the right side of the roads and also schooled on proper hand signs when cycling.
It was put on by Ocean Atlantic with the help of several sponsors such as Beebe Medical Center, DELDOT, Delaware State Police, and Sussex Cyclists.
"Workers who come in and work during the summer season are the ones who need it. And these are bicyclist who ride to and from work, that's their mode of transportation," said Kent Hannaman, organizer with Ocean Atlantic.
The resort areas of Sussex County see an average of one cyclist fatality per year according to local health officials.
