Plan your next weekend trip at Rehoboth Beach Delaware. Just like a lot of people, you may be hesitant to take a vacation in this economy. The excuses I hear are, “I feel guilty taking time with the economy so bad”, “the gas prices are outrageous”, etc. I am here to tell you, it is possible. With Delaware being tax-free, you are already saving that money. Instead of taking several trips to the store or malls in your area, go out once and get it all done that day. Save the extra money to put in gas for a visit to the beach.
Pack a picnic lunch and bring your own snacks for the road. This will eliminate some of the stops you make, therefore saving money, as convenient store snacks tend to be pricier. I have listed a sample weekend here in Rehoboth for a budget.
Week prior to trip: Hit family dollar or dollar tree and buy snacks and drinks, as prices are cheaper. If your local grocery store is having a sale, hit that and do not forget your coupons.
Look around for different hotels, scan for coupon codes, call for specials, etc. Stay outside of the beach. Coming to Rehoboth, stay in Seaford, Milford, Georgetown or other small towns as rates are usually cheaper and all of these places are within thirty minutes from the beach.
Thursday night: Fill up your car and pick up a bag of ice.
Friday: Pack your picnic, load up the car and head to the beach. If you need to stop for a meal, hit McDonalds for the dollar menu.
For couples: Have a romantic evening on the boardwalk, walking the beach and stargazing. Take a blanket, get a couple slices of pizza (grab a soda from the ones you brought) and have dinner for two in the sand. For a cheap souvenir of the evening hit the photo booth and collect some shells.
Have kids, can do all of the above, make a special movie night in the hotel room by renting a movie on pay per view or bring some of your own if you know the rooms are equipped for that. Bring your own popcorn, M&M’s, and skittles pour some in a paper cup for each person and there are your cheap movie snacks.
Saturday: Be sure to hit your hotels free breakfast, grab a couple extra items for later (hey, you paid for it) hang out in their dining room mingling with other guests or hang out in your room. Take a morning dip in the pool and head out for a day of fun.
If you like to window shop, head over to the many outlets located up and down highway one. Lewes, DE located right before Rehoboth (Savannah road) go down to second street and go through all of the neat shops. They have a pet boutique, toy store, clothing stores, art gallery, wonderful antique stores and much more. Walk down to the docks to view the boats. Drive all the way to the end of Savannah road and you can share an ice cream at Dairy queen. Hit the beach while there. Parking at this inlet is $1.50 an hour. There are restrooms located there as well.
If you have kids: spend the morning at the beach, bring your own buckets or plastic cups (free from hotel), and let them build sandcastles. Bring your own kites so they can fly them and play in the water. The inside rides at Fun land open at 1:00pm. Twenty tickets are $6.oo and 48 tickets are $12 and so on. They have $0.25 and $0.50 games, video games and more.
As you wind down from Saturday evening, hit a cheap restaurant like Cracker barrel, KFC, or others you may enjoy. Head back to the boardwalk to watch the crowd, listen to the waves. Go back to your hotel, swim, shower, and relax, after all it is a vacation. You do not want to feel like you need to rest when you do get home.
Sunday: If you are still trying to save money, go to the hotels free breakfast, take it to the beach to eat it. Then head home.
In this recession, you may not be able to take a week vacation to the Bahamas or California, but you can take a couple of mini vacations to one of Delaware’s beaches.
