18th annual Sea Witch Halloween and Fiddlers’ Festival

Halloween will come a few days early for Rehoboth Beach as goblins, ghouls and witches take over the downtown area for the 18th annual Sea Witch Halloween and Fiddlers’ Festival.

The festival, produced by the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce, will be held on Oct. 27 and 28. It features events and contests for all ages, including the Sea Witch Costume Parade, a broom tossing contest, a Sea Witch Hunt through downtown, trick-or-treating at local businesses and a 5k race.

The Sea Witch Costume Parade will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m., weather permitting. It will feature cars, floats and costumed walkers.

Anyone is welcome to register for free as a walker. Sign-up will be at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Hall, beginning an hour before the parade’s start.

The parade route for vehicles will begin at the State Road intersection on Rehoboth Avenue, continue up to the bandstand in front of the boardwalk and return back down Rehoboth Avenue, ending at the Columbia Avenue intersection.

Walkers in the parade will head out from the Rehoboth Beach Convention Hall, head up Rehoboth Avenue to the bandstand and head back down the avenue to the post office at the Second Street intersection.

The walkers will lead the parade, with vehicles trailing behind them.

Local and state legislators will be on-hand to judge parade participants and hand out trophies to their favorites. The ceremony will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the bandstand.

Avenue Apothecary and Spa massage therapist Dawn Kiker is heading up the preparations for the spa’s parade entry.

The float’s theme is “The Greenest Spa in Town,” and will feature the Sea Witch getting a manicure and pedicure — while her broom receives a parking ticket from a police officer.

Kiker said she had the idea to do a float for Sea With this year and the spa’s owners signed off on it.

“This is our first year entering,” Kiker said of the parade, “so we’re very, very excited.”

Following the parade, the search for the Sea Witch will begin. From 1 to 5 p.m., people will travel to various sites around town, gathering clues to unlock the witch’s hiding place and possibly win $300 in the Sea Witch Hunt.
